Manor Oaks Playscheme

This is a major resource within the area”

The Manor Oaks Play scheme provides play opportunities for up to 40 children aged 8 and over during the school holidays in St Johns church hall, Bernard Road

There was a need for safe organised childcare during the school holidays to provide support for working parents and to divert children from using the streets and the possibility of unsociable activity
The play scheme was set up in 2003. It provides play and opportunities for activities ranging from bowling to rowing, swimming, outdoor pursuits and many more

Hundreds of children have attended over the years, from various backgrounds and communities with a
wide range of abilities. This gives opportunities to not only the children but their parents/carers in the school holidays meaning that they are in a safe structured environment.

The staff are a combination of waged and volunteers. We have provided volunteer opportunities for about 20 people over the years. The volunteers range from parents wanting to do something with their children during the holidays to students using it as a part of their degree.

The scheme offers routes of progression which have been tried and tested and many of the staff and volunteers have been successful in gaining employment since their experience here.
