Manor & Castle Healthy Living Network

 

This Network of local community organisations was set up in April 2003 following a successful bid for Big Lottery funding. Whilst the funding for this programme has finished the Networking between the organisations still continues today. 
 
The Network is made up of organisations offering support and activities to cater for all ages of the local communities ranging from young people to the elderly, covering all types of health needs.
 
The main organisations of the network are Activity Sheffield, Castle Advice Service, Enable (Sheffield), Food In Sheffield Programme, Manor Community Transport, Manor Young People's Health Project, Supporting Families, Turning Point, Victoria Community Enterprise, Victoria Live At Home Scheme.  For a brief description and contact details of these organisations please go to the Useful Contacts section.   
 
Health Consortium
 
Manor & Castle Development Trust is one of the ten founding organisations of the Sheffield Well-Being Health Consortium. Working very closely with other health community and voluntary organisations across the city and supported by Voluntary Action Sheffield it is forming a charitable health limited company.
 
The aim of this is by bringing together the citywide skills and knowledge it will form on organisation which will in the near future be in a position to tender for new contracts which will be shared between the organisations depending upon their respective capabilities. The health consortium will be launched during April.  
 
Self Care Independence Project
 
The Self Care Independence Project (SCIP) is an independently run support group for local people who are recovering from or living with low level mental heath issues such as anxiety, low self esteem or depression.
 
SCIP is run by a management committee made up of its members who make all the strategic decisions on the policy and activities of the group.
 
Funding has been obtained from the Sheffield City Council Small Grants Fund to pay for a very full range of activities which range from cycling, first aid courses, photographic courses,healthy cook & eat sessions, chairobics, yoga, and trips out to museums and the seaside.   All the activities are free to members of the group.
 
In addition the group carry out fundraising events.
 
The purpose of the group is to help to reduce isolation and provide well-being therapies. The group meets each Thursday between 11am and 1:30pm at York House, 535 City Road, Sheffield, S2 1GF. At each meeting Mandy Stockley an experienced BACP accredited counsellor is present to help to give advice / guidance to the members.
 
The SCIP group are presently looking for new members to join and referrals can be made either through a doctor, health support worker or by self referral.
