Manor and Castle
Manor and Castle Development Trust are responsible for the following activities in the Manor and Castle ward:
- Community development,
- Capacity building activity,
- Community participation,
- Social and economic inclusion.
- Advocacy
The delivery mechanism for this work is through the team of front line development workers whose prime purpose is to deliver the above activities.
The success of the current team lies in the fact that they are all local people with good local knowledge and networks that enhance the activity.
Each development worker is attached to a neighbourhood and a local Forum and the work plan is agreed between MCDT and the Forum officers.
The work plan is focused around activities that are appropriate to the individual neighbourhood but will achieve the objectives of the Trust overall.
The activities that the team will undertake includes:
- Organise and publicise local forum meetings, monthly.
- Organise and publicise open days annually, linked to the review of the neighbourhood plans.
- Organise and run consultation events linked to specific projects and developments.
- Organise and run universal activities, minimum 3 times a year, i.e. festivals, information & celebration days.
- Management of Forum’s budgets and reporting monthly.
- Liase with service providers across the area.
- Project design and management.
- Support to projects in relation to organisational development.
- To identify and work with individuals to increase their skills and confidence through support, training and ‘hand holding’ to enable them to take up training, volunteering, employment opportunities.
- To recruit and manage volunteers.
- To signpost individuals to appropriate services.
- To work with groups of people to identify their personal needs and source appropriate services to meet those needs.
- To set up and deliver informal training opportunities to meet specific needs for community organisation
- To develop and run specific projects to deliver services e.g. play schemes, youth forums,
- To have a visible presence in the local community (‘walking one stop information point’)
- To advocate for local people and local ideas
