Health People
The Health team is made up of the following people:
John Goodwin is the Health Co-ordinator. Contact number is 2754467 or e-mail johngoodwin@manorandcastle.org.uk .
This role is to:
· Coordinate the mechanism for health activity in the Manor Castle area and supporting local health organisations.
· Coordinating local initiatives and public health programmes working closely with the Primary Care Trust.
· Liasing with key health workers within MCDT and local area to ensure that health objective for the local area are met.
· Build and develop relationships with organisations that have an interest in health such as Primary Care Trust, Sheffield City Council and local businesses.
· To establish a citywide health consortium.
· Identify and apply for funding streams.
· Coordinate and involve the local community and health professionals in the Health Interest Group.
· Attract and manage community Health training courses to the area such as Introduction to Community Development & Health.
· Evaluate the community health work carried out in the area and discuss with the community in order to help to identify future needs.
· Support the Sheffield MIND Health & Wellbeing Project in the area.
Julie Adwas is the Wybourn Stop Smoking Worker. Contact number is 2521035 or e-mail julieawdas@manorandcastle.org.uk .
This role is:
· Around encouraging and supporting residents from the Wybourn Neighbourhood to stop smoking.
· This involves a flexible programme of initiatives from seminars for groups to one to one home visits.
Claire Williams is the Manor Castle Park Hill Community Health Worker. Contact number is 2521071 or e-mail clairewilliams@manorandcastle.org.uk
This role is to:
· Support residents from the Manor Castle Park Hill neighbourhoods to access existing services and health initiatives.
· To identify barriers to local people accessing services and gaps in services and pass that knowledge onto the appropriate mainstream services.
· To work with local workers to develop and support community initiatives and networks.
· Enable local people to become involved in activities that improve health and quality of life.
· To work with communities to ensure their views influence statutory bodies.
· To promote the use of preventative services that meet the locally identified health needs.
· To recruit and support local people to access training and employment opportunities in health and social care.
Some of the activities which Claire does are:
· Health and wellbeing, weight management classes.
· Stop smoking sessions.
· In the future this will include cycle training for young people and adults in the area. Claire is presently completing her CTC cycle trainer instructor qualifications and once passed will be keen to pass on those skills to other people in the neighbourhoods.
All these classes / activities are free to local residents.
Sharon Grocock is the Wybourn Community Health Worker. Contact number is 2521035 or sharongrocock@manorandcastle.org.uk .
Sharon’s role is:
· Very similar to Claire’s although the neighbourhood which she covers is the Wybourn instead of Manor Castle, Park Hill.
Some of the activities which Sharon does are:
· Sharon is a fully trained fitness instructor and this knowledge is used in the groups which she runs.
· Health walks.
· Chairobics and aerobics classes.
· Exercise classes and activities run for parents who use Sure Start.
The team works closely with the Sheffield Primary Care Trust, especially Sarah Hepworth who is the local Health Improvement Practitioner Specialist for the Manor Castle, Park Hill, Wybourn and Woodthorpe areas.
Sarah’s role involves:
- Leading on health improvement and the Enhanced Public Health Programme in Manor Castle and Woodthorpe within Sheffield Primary Care Trust, working with relevant partner organisations.
- Supporting the development of local health related projects, community networks, and joint planning between the statutory and voluntary agencies in the identified areas.
- To lead on the development and delivery of Sheffield community stop smoking services and contribute to the achievement of the challenging smoking cessation targets set for the Sheffield Primary Care Trust.
- Sarah provides professional health supervision to Julie, Sharon and Claire which helps to ensure that they are kept up to date with the latest health policies and strategies.
- To contribute to Primary Care Trust work in the Manor Castle, Park Hill, Wybourn, Woodthorpe areas on reducing health inequalities.
